Soul Food : The Wait

"At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom"

 Matthew 25 : 1

We are all familiar with this parable. It's a very enlightening parable on waiting on God on two different levels :

- running this race and waiting for Jesus' second coming

- waiting on God for a specific miracle/breakthrough

The first point is the one we normally hear about when it comes to this parable, however, it also instructs us on waiting on God for one thing or the other.

After we've built up our faith, we've prayed & trusted God, what do we do as we wait?

While waiting on God, we sometimes get distracted, loose hope, our faith dries up and we end up in compromise.
When it comes to waiting on God, consistency is key. We can't fold our hands and sit down, waiting. As we wait on God, we need to continually build up our faith, remain rooted in the Word & stay in prayer because even as we wait on God, temptations & trials will come to lead us into compromise and thus make us miss out on God's plan for our lives.
While waiting on God, we need to hold on to His promises (written & spoken), with faith & expectation. God cannot do what we do not believe He will do because " without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him" [Hebrews 11 : 6]. Your miracle will only be as big as your faith is. If you cannot have faith God will do what you are waiting on Him for, you'll have a hard time visualizing it which makes it impossible to receive. It was the same thing with the children of Israel on their way to the promised land. While waiting on God for their promise land, the lost faith & turned away from God making that first generation unable to receive what was promised.

Another thing we need to realize is, while waiting on God, we need to prepare for the miracle. God will do His part because He is faithful but what about ours? For example, you can't be looking up to God for growth in your business without making future business plans & setting goals. It's called preparation. Miracles happen when preparation meets opportunity. As you wait on God, prepare by faith for what you believe God will do. Don't prepare with your present situation in mind, but prepare with what the knowledge of what is to come.

Don't let people lie to you about what God will do or will not do in your life. Don't let useless issues distract you. Don't get entangled in the worries of life. Instead, hold on tight to the promise given to you; keep your feet firm in the Word & your eyes focused on God. Don't be like the five foolish virgins who got distracted & didn't buy extra oil for their lamps.

Knowing thatOil = Faith; Lamp = preparation
Therefore Stand in faith. Don't waiver. Trust God.Prepare for your miracle.

May God give us the grace to wait on Him according to His will!
