Soul Food : Patience

And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised

Hebrews 6 : 15

I once heard that patience is a virtue. According to the New Oxford American dictionary, a virtue is a "behavior showing high moral standards". Unfortunately, "high moral standards" are not something we see much of these days. Many seem to be looking for "shortcuts" and an "easy way". Compromise is painted all over making it seem as if nothing is worth waiting for anymore. However, the Word of God tells us otherwise.
In our key verse, the author talks about Abraham & how he waited "patiently" for God's promise - which was to give him a heir (and make his offspring as numerous as the stars in the sky)- Genesis 15 : 4 - 5. Abraham was a hundred years old when he had Isaac but God had made the promise many years prior to Isaac' birth. Imagine being given such a promise at such an old age. Wouldn't most of us doubt then later on just give up on it?
However, "Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness" (Genesis 15 : 6) and because He held on to God's Word & waited patiently, he received what was promised.

Many of us lack patience but without it, we cannot get anything from God. The reason is this : patience is a manifestation of our faith in God & without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11 : 6). Therefore, by being impatient, we are telling God we don't believe He can do whatever He said He'd do. One thing we always seem to forget is, "it is impossible for God to lie" (Hebrews 6 : 18).

Impatience leads to compromise, which births a temporary solution outside of God's will. The pleasure of this temporary solution is nothing compared to the grave circumstances that ensue. Compromise can derail us from God's will, making what was promised unattainable. We have to begin to register the fact that, God is faithful & He will surely bring His word to pass as Isaiah 55 : 11 tells us, "so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it". Whatever God has promised, He will surely do. True, the wait can be very challenging however, no matter the temptation or trial, we have to hold on to God's Word in total faith. It's the same thing with our race. As we await the promise of Jesus' return to be manifested, we are to wait patiently, yet enduring the different storms we face with full faith in God's Word.
Whatever you are waiting for, be it a miracle of healing or of children; breakthrough in your finances or business; God's intervention in your family or marriage; your God-given partner...God will surely fulfill His Word concerning it. Just know that your faith in God is not in vain. As you wait, keep your faith burning & your prayers fervent.

May God give us the grace to wait patiently on Him according to His will.
Amen.

  2. Wow, like this post a lot! Well put Sis. An example that immediately comes to mind are the Israelites. They were impatient and didn't believe God so what should've taken them an 11 day journey turned to 40. Like you said, the consequences of impatience are grave!

    Thanks for being a blessing!

  3. Thank you for sharing this... I wanted to blog a while about patience but my words weren't coming out right... I'm glad I got the chance to read this...and I hope at least a few nuggets of wisdom have been embedded in my heart... Hopefully we'll all learn to be patient when we are actually infront of the storm. God help us in Jesus name... Amen
