Soul Food : Give Your 100%

"Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God"

1 Corinthians 10 : 31

For many months, God has been repeatedly trying to teach me to apply this scripture. However, this has been one I have had to constantly keep in my mind. We all go through the hustle of a day, wishing to be at rest but motivated with the requirement of making a living. Sometimes, we do our jobs half heartedly, what do we care? As long as we pass the time. At home it's a whole other story. For those of us that still live with our parents, mumbling & grumbling is the song we sing before actually getting to the chores around the house. What about our ministries at church? We're not getting paid so why put our whole in it? This is how we think but it's not at all God's will. We try to do the minimum to save ourselves from work & preserve our strength but this is not God's will for our lives. Let's look at the life of Jesus - our ultimate example. He took advantage of each minute to do what He had to do. He never slacked (even though it seemed like He sometimes did), He never hesitated & when He made up His mind to do something, He did it to the 100%. There is nowhere in the Bible where it says Jesus only healed one eye of the blind, or only healed one leg of the lame. You say it's not the same thing? But it is. We have been bought by the preciously priceless blood of Christ & our life is not our own as 1 Corinthians 6 : 20 says "you were bought at a price." Therefore everything we do, we do it as for God. Doesn't a slave consider all he/she does carefully upon laying hands on a task. Doesn't he/she think about the master's response. In the same manner, no matter what you are doing; whether it be your job, for your family, for your kids, for your husband,in your ministry & even schoolwork we are to give our 100% that is, our very best.
Why is this, you ask? As I stated before, we have been bought by Christ therefore, we are not our own person. I know you're saying, "but my job has nothing to do with God" yes but you are to do it in a way that Christ will shine & be glorified and your boss will find no other like you. Your boss might be mean & might hate you but still, do it with all you have. I know many might have mean teachers & hate schoolwork in fact, these days, it seems to be cool to not do school work, but this is not God's will for our lives. We are to be the example. Even in ministry, if you find yourself doing the backstage jobs & nobody is even acknowledging you, you better keep on going. You see, what many fail to understand is that, GOD is the only rewarder. Men might not see what you are doing & even insult you but don't you let that discourage you. Matthew 6 : 1 says "Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven". That settles the matter. Just keep in mind that God is the only rewarder & He sees all we do, in secret & in the open. Even when men overlook all your good work, keep it up
Another thing to know is that, wherever you find yourself, do not consider it a coincidence. God has placed us all in different gardens to be a blessing & to shine for His the glory of His name. Again, we are to be the example. You shouldn't wait to get to church to be ready to roll up your sleeves & get your hands dirty. There are different places around where you are needed if only you gave your all. At the end of the day, God is aware of all we do & it is not His pleasure for us to give anything less than our 100%. He requires it of us. Whether in our job, family, school, ministry, God demands 100%. Not only are you using your work to minister Christ to others but you are sowing a seed of obedience. In fact, anything less than our 100% is a sin. But of course, none of us is perfect & we are all striving towards perfection - which is Jesus. It gets hard to stay motivated, overlook the negativity flowing from others around us, stay focused, etc but let us remember that each day is a new chance to give 100% & with the help of God we can do it everyday. By doing this, we are taking another step closer to Christ, in becoming like Him.
In conclusion, remember the story of Cain & Abel [Genesis 4]. Cain gave his offerings with nonchalance while Abel gave the very best he had. God looked on Abel & his offerings with favor but didn't accept Cain's offerings. In the same way, our input & efforts are also an offering to God because we are sacrificing our time, energy & talent. And in the same way, He can either reject it or accept it. No matter how bad your job is, how low the pay is, how terrible your chores are at home, how mean your teachers are, how unbearable your kids are or how much you do in church, keep on doing it as unto Christ & God will surely reward you.
