Verse Of The Week : Pressing On

"But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint"

Isaiah 40 : 31

As we move forward in this life, the pressures of life press hard against us from all sides & angles. We are constantly under pressure, emotionally, spiritually & physically & everyday is a battle. Even the dreams we carry sometimes we let slip out of our hands & we loose our vision along with our focus in an effort to alleviate the pressure. In fact, some even stop along the way letting the forces of life carry them wherever it will.
But we have to know & be fully aware that as Christians, we are swimming against the current & going against the flow. It's a basic fact in Physics that when a force is exerted against another force, only the biggest one can have it's way and win. It's the same thing with us. If we are going against the current, we will face a counter force, pushing us backwards & making it harder to move forward. Now, apart from this force, there are other forces coming from all different angles; these forces are the everyday pressures of life that we face at work, school or in our entourage.
Brother Paul attests to this when he wrote, "We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair;  persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed"
2 Corinthians 4 : 8 - 9.

So what are we to do? What are we to do when we are up to our necks in pressure; what are we to do when we fin dour backs against the wall; what are we to do when compromise seems like the only way? What are to do when we have cried all the tears we have to cry? What are we to do?

Isaiah 40 : 41 tells us exactly what we are to do. "But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength". It tells us to stay hopeful. What is staying hopeful all about? The NKJV uses the word "wait". Waiting & hoping are the same thing. And both cannot be accomplished without trust. When you have trust in someone or something you will surely wait for that thing or person & hope in the person or thing. You cannot hope in what you do not trust in. Trusting & having faith in God are very closely linked but trust can still exist even after you fail to see through the eyes of faith. Trusting in God is believing He is able & having faith in Him is believing He is able & knowing He will do it. Sometimes our faith fails but we just cannot let our trust in God fail. Trust in Him & hold on to His Word that brings faith (Romans 10 : 17). Don't let the devil lie to you & deceive you. Don't let your troubles overshadow God. Your troubles, pains, worries & sorrows might be big but God is bigger! Meditate on His goodness & always bring to recollection His past works to keep your hope going. Even the Psalmists says "Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits" Psalm 103 : 2.
To fight the pressures of life from whatever angle they might be coming from or whatever category they might fall under, we need the whole armor of God! If we are fighting, then we definitely have to defend ourselves & fight back.
"Therefore put on the full armor of God,so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand" Ephesians 6 : 13.
We cannot do without it. From the helmet of salvation, to the breastplate of righteousness, right down to the belt of truth going on to the shoes of readiness & of course the shield of faith (which is our defense) & the sword of the Spirit (which is our offense).
Now you see that without faith - which is a higher level of the hope we were talking about - we cannot defend ourselves and without the Spirit, which is the Word of God, we cannot attack.

To tie it all together, it is certain we will continually face all kinds of pressure but God wants us to press on forward. The benefit of pressing forward is to finish this race. We cannot afford for the waves of life to overtake us & steer us away from the Father. We cannot afford to miss eternal life. Dearest beloved, I am speaking to you in all transparency that sometimes, it gets hard, and I mean real hard but the devil will try & push all our buttons and press us from all sides in an attempt to see us give up, let go or turn around & follow the world but please "stand firm. Let nothing move you" 1 Corinthians 15 : 58.
Let your faith be anchored in God & His word be the foundation of your life so that even when the seas roar & the storm becomes violent, you know that He is with you, you know that come what may, He is more than able to see you through & there is no room for compromise or doubt.
Just know, "The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it" 1 Thessalonians 5 : 24.
As you wait on Him with your heart full of faith, He will renew your strength, strength for the race & the things to come!

Just press on!
