Soul Food : Be Transformed

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will"

- Romans 12 : 2

This is our scripture for this week.

Many Christians today get involved in all kinds of wrong things. We claim we are Christians yet we get involved in all kind of activities, deals and decisions. The number one reason why most Christians take these wrong turns is because they fail to know the will of God. Not doing the will of God is like walking in the dark and then walking away from the light that keeps us from falling into a ditch. The truth of the matter is, though many go to Church, only a few know the will of God in their lives and diverse situations.
Of course we often find ourselves confused and wondering, "God what do you want me to do?" while other times, we jump into things depending on how the flesh feels. But brethren, God's will is the key to our survival in this world. It is only God's light that can lead us correctly and prevent us from getting sucked up into this evil world. In John 14 : 16, Jesus said "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me". God's will is His word and Jesus is that Word in the flesh (John 1 : 1 - 5). And "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path" (Psalm 119 : 105)
As children of God, we need to be able to "test and approve" what God's will is, "His good, pleasing and perfect will". In this wicked and fast decaying world, we cannot afford to be guessing or choosing by default. Every decision, every step and every choice counts "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Ephesians 6 : 12. This is a battle, and we need to be prepared. Imagine a soldier at war who is one, badly prepared and poorly protected because he/she doesn't know where all the equipment are kept and two, he/she does not know the strategy plans. That soldier is going to finish badly and even maybe in enemy territory without knowing it.

However, how do we know God's will in our lives?
As Romans 12 : 2 tells us, we have to be "transformed by the renewing" of our minds and not be "conformed to the pattern of this world".

Firstly, what is being conformed to the pattern of this world?
Being conformed means following the ways, standards and practices of this world. Applying the logic of this world and "going with the flow". I know we have all been there and some of us still do it but however, Romans 12 : 2 tells us to do otherwise. We are not to think like the world, act like it or react like it.

Secondly, how are we to be transformed?
The transformation comes by the renewing of our minds. To renew our minds, we need the WORD OF GOD. We need to eat it, drink it, listen to it, meditate on it, speak to it, speak with it, talk it, dream it every single day. The Word is food for our souls. As we read the Word, and as we submit to it and ask God to open our eyes to understand what we are reading, it will transform us and wash away the filthy system already integrated in our minds.

Therefore, the transformation happens simultaneously with the cleansing. As we are being transformed by the renewing of our minds through the word, we are being cleansed of the filth in our heads and a new order is being set in place.

It is only after this that we can truly test what God's will is for our lives. The more you are transformed, the more you will be able to discern God's will. Of course, this process is reversible, that is why it is important to stay anchored in God's Word. The transformation of our minds also take time, so do not be frusterated. You need to keep on going, deeper and deeper in the Word and seek God the more.("Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded" James 4 : 8) Pray as you read for God to open your eyes and heart to totally accept His word and completely submit to it. Do not be discouraged. Moreover, you can never know too much about God or get too close to Him, the more we know the more we find out there is even much more ground to cover.

May God transform our minds through His perfect Word so that we can walk according to His will and not fall away, and may He give us strength to persevere in our walk with Him, amen.
