Soul Food : Give Thanks

"Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus"

- 1 Thessalonians 5 : 18

This is our portion of scripture for this week.

Many times, we find ourselves in situations that we just did not bargain for and we find ourselves asking God, "why?". Apart from it being the most easiest thing to do, it's also the most logical thing to do right?

But 1 Thessalonians 5 : 18 clearly tells us this is not God's will. We are to give thanks in ALL CIRCUMSTANCES. ALL CIRCUMSTANCES mean whether it is raining, the sun is shinning, whether you are rich, homeless, sick, healthy, happy, crying....WHATEVER the circumstance, the issue, situation or trouble we are to give thanks!

Of course no one feels like giving thanks when their heart is troubled. But wait, why should your heart be troubled? Listen, I'm not saying what you're going though isn't serious but I'm saying you serve a mighty God. No problem is too big for our God. Once you register this, you should be able to easily lift up your hands in any situation and say "thank you Daddy". God knows your beginning and you end; He's got the bog picture so why shouldn't you give thanks.

We have developed the horrible habit of complaining 24/7 no matter how good things are going or no matter how little how troubles are. Being able to sleep and wake up is a reason to jump up and shout "thank you God!" God is worthy of our praises and more...We need to develop an attitude of gratitude no matter the situation. What is the situation before the Almighty God, the Creator of the universe? Nothing, that's what it is.

Thanksgiving opens doors. You might not have food on the table, but thanking God for past meals and for being alive is the key to more. Remember Paul and Silas in prison? They were singing praises! Can you imaging being put in prison and singing praises? They were put in jail because of God and in their cell they were singing to God, the cause of their predicament! How awesome! Guess what? As they were praising, the door of the prison flew open! [Acts 16 : 25 - 28]. These men really had a heart of thanksgiving.

1 Thessalonians 5 : 18 says we should give thanks at all times. There are no exceptions or conditions. We are to give thanks in the summer when it is scorching hot, in the winter when we are cold, we are also to give thanks when we are broke, when we are confused about our present situation, when we are down...We are to give thanks at all times.

Develop a lifestyle of thanksgiving and you will surely see God move in your life. It was the praises Paul and Silas were singing that opened the prison door. It is not your complaining that will help you, rather it will cut your blessing short and it is not your regret, because this is not of God, rather, it is your thanksgiving that will open those doors you need opening in your life.
Do not be alarmed when things happen in your life no matter the gravity, rather, learn to give it to God in total faith and keep on giving thanks.

May God help us to live a life of total thanksgiving!
Amen!!
