Soul Food : Be Still

"Be still, and know that I am God"

- Psalm 46 : 10

This is our portion of scripture for this week.

This verse is pretty much clear. God is telling us to be still because He will surely prove by His awesome works that He is God. Unfortunately, many of us do not know how to be still when it come to kingdom matters and God's promises.

Let me ask you a question. How would you like it, if your child tried opening a can of tuna because he or she would like some so much but this child is not old enough to be able to do it all by him or herself. So you tell your child to be patient that you will help him or her but your child is too impatient and while trying to open the can gets cut. None of us would like that and in fact, it all falls down to being disobedient or being obedient to God.

Many Christians these days use worldly knowledge to deal with matters concerning their lives and in the process they mess up what God has prepared for them. Worldly knowledge is not God's knowledge ( "I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me" John 14 : 30 ; "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction" Proverbs 1 : 7).
We run around trying to find answers to our situations as if we are doing God a favor. God knows the beginning and then end of your situation and whether you believe it or not, He is also in it with you all through. You cannot do God a favor or figure your life out for Him simply because He made your life, He made you. (“Woe to those who quarrel with their Maker, those who are nothing but potsherds among the potsherds on the ground. Does the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you making?’ Does your work say, ‘The potter has no hands’?" Isaiah 45 : 9 ; Yet you, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand." Isaiah 64 : 8)
Many people become too impatient to wait for God's time and they deliberately start looking for alternatives. You are not doing God a favor in anyway. And we even say, "heaven helps those who helps themselves". My Bible does not tell me this.

God is faithful and true and He will surely do what He has said. (God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?" Numbers 23 : 19).
Have faith.
Don't apply the wisdom of the flesh and in so doing, miss God's appointment with you. God is never too late or too early, but He is always on time. At the appointed time, beloved, He will surely show up.

However, being still is not all about sitting down and folding your arms. God has promised yes, but it is up to you to keep on praying, keep on reading His word and to keep on waiting on Him. Stay anchored in the word and pray without ceasing ("pray continually" 1 Thessalonians 5 : 17). Do not be complacent with where you are but rather continue seeking God fervently and living according to His will.
In due time, in His time, in the best time, He will surely show up in your situation.

May God give us the grace to truly wait on Him.
