Soul Food : The Great Commission

“He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.  And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;  they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.’”

- Mark 16 : 15 – 18

This is our portion of scripture for this week.

I believe we all know the context : After rising up on the third day, Jesus reveals Himself to His disciples and gives them an order to go into the world and after this He is taken up to heaven.

This was Jesus’ last instruction to the disciples and at the same time to us. This is our great commission; our mission is to the world. These days, many of us Christians seem to leave that part out…but the tuth of the matter is that, Jesus has sent US to the world, not angels, nobody else. US. Jesus said, And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come” (Matthew 24 : 18). This is one of the signs of the end times. WE are to go to the world and preach the word. There are so many people that need to hear the word, that need Jesus in their life; they need OUR light even as we “are the light of the world” (Matthew 5 : 14). But then How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?" Even as Brother Paul points out in Romans 10 : 14

Preaching the word is not for evangelists alone, it’s for all of us. We have ALL been called for this. Even as we do this, Jesus will be with us, work wonders through us and will confirm His word through us (Mark 16 : 20).

So how do we go about doing this?

It’s simple. You don’t have to become a missionary or even go out into the streets everyday. It’s the little things that count.

● You can preach the word by little things you tell your colleagues, friends and family.

● You can be a testimony : share what God has done in your life.

● Your way of life, the words you say the way you walk should be a way of preaching the gospel. People should see your light! We should not contradict the word of God by our choice of lifestyle. People should smell the aroma of Christ around us!

May God help us, even as we do this and may God give us courage to spread His word and may He work His works through us for the whole world to see!
