Soul Food : The Day Of The Lord

"But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare"

- 2 Peter 3 : 10

This is our portion of scripture for this week.

It's so amazing how these days, so many "Christians" go about doing whatever they want, however they want, clearly living to satisfy their carnal pleasures and telling themselves Jesus will never come, that God has forgotten.

But brother Peter himself says in verse  3 to 4 that "in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” "

If you have not noticed or you are trying to ignore it, these are the last days. Brother rise against brother, the human race is more corrupt than ever...

The ones that call themselves Christians but do not acknowledge the Lord's coming are scoffers, or mockers, as brother Paul said and not only are they ignorant but they are unstable as he goes on to say in verse 16, that "...distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction."

There are many like this, that distort the scriptures to their own liking, to fit their way of life...but be careful not to join them because it is to their very own destruction...

So now, the question to ask is, "is Jesus really coming back?"

The answer to the question is...

YES!!

This is one of the Christian foundation, a simple word of truth...It is written CLEARLY ALL OVER scriptures that Jesus is coming back. If you deny this, your faith is in vain. For what would be our profit to live in this world, die...for if Jesus were not to come and we were able to live, still in our sins, what would be the benefit of the gospel of Jesus Christ...But see...with the same word God used to create the world, and "By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly." (v.7). There is no escaping it, God's word is true and His word will never return to Him void, ever (Isaiah 55 : 11).

Many are impatient for this coming, others have forgotten, most don't really care, as Christians, children of God, what kind of attitude should we have towards this news?

Brother Peter answers this question in verses 11 - 13 : "Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells. So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him."

and also in verses 17 - 18 :

Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever!"

This is a great chapter and I advice you strongly to meditate on it!

Yes, Jesus is coming and even as brother Peter said, With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. " (v.8-9) And as stated above, it is for our own good that Jesus has not come yet, so that we can have the time to put our lives right and in order, so that we can be found ready! Think of it like a wedding preparation...The groom tarries to come get the bride, to give her time to be ready. If he came at eight in the morning, she wouldn't be ready at all, but instead, if he gives her time and waits, she will be ready, if she really wants to go ahead with the wedding.

The same is true for us and the Lord. If we really love Him, we will take advantage of the time He has given, and put ourselves in order for Him, ready to be received as a stunning bride, whole, pure and  righteous.

Dear friends, be sober, do not entangle yourselves in the things of the world, run away from the love of  money and stand firm in the Faith! All these things you see, the wealth, splendor, bling, power, will pass away, they will crumble even before our very eyes!  The world and all it's immorality will be devoured by fire and everything gone in the blink of an eye.

Instead of building earthly treasures, let us look up to heaven and build there, invest their; let us set our minds on heavenly things, like the heavenly being we are (Colossians 3 : 2).

Of course, it is by His grace that we can stand, even to the end for "If the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect, whom he has chosen, he has shortened them." (Mark 13 : 20 ).
If the groom takes too long, the wedding might just not hold.

So let us pray to God to give us the grace to stand, looking above, looking past these things around us, doomed for destruction!

This is not to upset anybody but it's a warning of love from the Father to all His children. He wants you to make it with Him into heaven.
All you have to do is to be prepared.

Get ready!!

Come Lord come!!

May God help us prepare and help us to stand until He comes or calls us home,
 amen!

God richly bless you all!
