Soul Food : Holiness

Our portion of scripture this week is :

" For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life"

- 1 Thessalonians 4 : 7

Holiness is a point which many Christians prefer not to touch on. We say, "let me go to church give my tithes and God will understand if I am not holy". "Nobody's perfect" right? Isn't that what we say?
Brother Paul clearly states in verse 3 - 4 "It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable". It is "God's will" for us to be holy, just as it's His will for us to love one another, trust in Him, prosper and be in good health...It's amazing how so many  Christians rule this out and consciously decide not to follow it yet we still expect all of God's blessings. God cannot be mocked (Galatians 6 : 7), Paul further goes on to say in verse 6 " and that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister. The Lord will punish all those who commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before."

Holiness is being disciplined in the body and even sometimes, in our minds and thoughts. It's not only about sexual immorality, but also things that can lead to such things. We can say "I am not doing anything wrong" without knowing we are not standing holy before God. Let us also refrain from pushing other brothers and sisters, who are vulnerable to sin, if we know better.
Let us not forget that we are the salt of the world (Matthew 5 :13), we are examples the world should follow, even as the world decays along with all it's virtues...We are supposed to make the difference, even when it comes to holiness. Remember, "without holiness, no one will see the Lord" Hebrew 12 : 14. I don't know about you, but I want to see the Lord.
May God help us. May He give us the grace to be holy in the way He wants us to be.
Do not hesitate to ask Him to help you...and He will.

May God richly bless you all
