Soul Food : Stand To Survive

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes."

- Ephesians 6 : 10 - 11

This is our verse for the week and what a powerful verse it is too!

I remember the first few time I became acquainted with this verse, how I though it could not be a big deal and would quickly look over it.

But isn't that our attitude these days? But the truth of the matter is, as brother Paul put it, "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." (verse 12) We are not just fighting with stick and and stones, or paper and cardboard. The devil has made up his mind to bring al those he can bring down with him for  he only comes to "kill, steal and to destroy" (John 10 : 10).
Imagine that. We have a serious enemy and he is not playing games.
Even as brother Peter said, "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour" (1 Peter 5 : 8). Let us take up our stand even as Jesus' return draws nearer and nearer every day, let us "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation" (Mathew 26 :41) because in the blink of an eye, if we decide to let our guards down, we could lose eternity.

This is not our portion in Jesus name!

So how do we prepare ourselves and stand? The second part of Matthew 26 : 41 says "The spirit is willing, but the body is weak." And Paul further goes on to say in Ephesians 6 : 13 - 17 "Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,  and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.  In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

This is a lot to meditate on but with prayer, yielding to the Spirit, and constant meditation on the word, we can put on that armor and stand, in prayer and full watch, waiting eagerly for the return of our beloved bridegroom. Jesus.

May God help us, and guide us and may His grace constantly keep up!

God bless you all richly!
