Soul Food : Love

"Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow.  I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him"

 - 2nd Corinthians 2 : 7 - 8

This is our verse for this week.

In this verse, Paul is urging the Corinthians to forgive the "offender" or "offenders" in their midst and "reaffirm" their love for them. That is, forgive and forget and show some love.

I know it's been a minute now that I've been speaking about love, but it's really the Spirit and I think we, as God's children and the light and salt of the world, in these end times, have a lot to learn on love.

In this particular verse, Paul is talking about believers. He doesn't say "if any one offends...". This tells us that one, people will always get offended and there will always be an offender, even in the house of God (1 Corinthians 11 : 13) so, there is no point going around and bad mouthing a brother or a sister or a particular church
and two, we are to forgive such a person and put the offense behind us in total love to the person and submission to God.

The consequence of our non forgiveness and show of love is probably the loss of that person's soul. As Paul says, so that the person "will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow" and probably leave the church where they could have been corrected in love and fall into the hands of the devil.

Let us not be a stumbling block to ourselves.
It is in the world that people hold grudges and hate each other, it should not happen in the house of God because if it does, then how can we do the opposite in the world? "Charity starts at home" right?

Instead of backbiting and gossiping about a sister or a brother in the church, why don't you go up to them and speak to them in love and pray for them in your private devotion.

Please note that if you are really walking in Godly love, forgiveness comes automatically.

The key is love (you can check out this post on love).

Well, I have been mightily blessed by this word and I cannot wait to share it with my choir!

May God help us and give us the grace to act according to His word, loving and forgiving like He does!

Stay blessed in Jesus name!
